Lauren & Henry are an American-British couple who chose to get married at the absolutely stunning Brympton House near Yeovil, Somerset. Thanks so much to Emily Rose for her amazing photos which really do tell the story of the day.

One of the things that makes The Get Downs stand out is our versatility and our huge repertoire list - it makes our band an ideal fit for weddings with guests from a wide range of age groups (which is, of course, most weddings!).

However we’re also finding more and more that it makes The Get Downs an ideal fit for couples from different backgrounds - as the music we play is approachable, and enjoyable by people of all cultures.

The venue

The venue for the day was the incredible Brympton House, nestled away in woodland near Somerset. One of our lasting memories of Lauren and Henry’s weddings were the long queues at the fuel pumps due to an energy crisis that was sweeping the UK that weekend - we were a tiny bit worried that we would get stranded a long way from home (many of the musicians had to drive 3+ hours to get home)!

A wedding music package

Lauren & Henry had booked our musicians to provide entertainment for each part of their day, starting off with their ceremony.

They asked our wedding pianist Mike to welcome their guests with classical piano selections including Chopin and Mike’s favourite classical piano piece, Debussy’s Clair de Lune.

The couple then selected two pieces of classical music composed by George Frideric Handel for the procession and recession - Largo and Arrival of the Queen of Sheba.

Drinks reception entertainment

During the drinks reception, our pianist again entertained the guests - this time performing cocktail jazz on the beautiful grand piano in the entrance hall of Brympton House.

Lauren asked pianist Mike to play some music that had been meaningful to her throughout her life for the drinks reception - with song selections including Mercy Mercy Mercy and pieces from the great jazz pianist and composer Abdullah Ibrahim.

The first dance

After dinner, the guests had a short, sparkler-lit walk from the main house to Brympton’s best kept secret - the Party Barn!

This was the location for - you guessed it - the party, starting with the first dance.

Lauren & Henry had made another special request for the first dance - a beautiful tune, which was new to us, called Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones.

Our vocalist Hannah learnt the song especially for Lauren & Henry and the couple danced a beautiful dance as their guests watched on.

The party

Then it was time to party - it was a joyful celebration and the pictures tell the whole story!

This was one of those weddings where there was just so much love and joy in the air - and thankfully we even all managed to get home fully fuelled.

Congratulations to Lauren & Henry and we wish you well for your future lives together.
