A musicians’ wedding in Surrey
One thing that The Get Downs are incredibly proud of is the fact that many professional musicians choose our band to entertain them for their weddings. We’ve previously performed at the wedding receptions of members of The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and West End actors and musicians who have appeared in shows from Oliver! to The Book of Mormon.
So it goes without saying that when Ben, a West End musical director (who has conducted the West End smash-hit Cabaret for two years and the UK tour of Les Misérables for even longer than that) asked us to perform for his wedding reception, we were incredibly flattered.
Ben and his American fiancée Sam had selected the beautiful Botley Hill Barn for their wedding. A gorgeous venue in the Surrey Hills, it made for the perfect setting for this joyful celebration.
Our music package began with cocktail piano music from our pianist Mike on the outdoor terrace as guests enjoyed drinks and cocktails.
After dinner and speeches, it was time for a quick room turnaround whilst the venue staff removed the tables and we set up the PA, instruments and lighting. Sam & Ben had chosen our premium lighting package - a range of extra lighting effects to provide a fantastic extra ambience to the stage and dancefloor.
Then it was time for the first dance - we performed Ben’s very own arrangement of the Andy Williams classic Can’t Take My Eyes Off You. We’ve performed this song many times for first dances, but never quite like this!
Then it was on with the party, with live music from our 12-piece The Get Downs band ensuring the dancefloor was packed all night long. You can tell from the photos what an amazing time everyone was having celebrating this fabulous Transatlantic couple.
It was a really special day and one that we’ll certainly remember for a long time to come.
