A Jewish destination wedding in Malta
Ketija & Gideon love to travel, and wanted to get married in style… so we’re not surprised that they chose to tie the know in the stunning Limestone Heritage Gardens in Malta.
This Latvian-British couple wanted live music for their destination wedding which would not only reflect Gideon’s Jewish heritage, but also keep guests from a mix of cultures on the dancefloor.
They wanted to avoid what they described as “clichéd” bands, so chose The Get Downs Lite to perform our unique mix of swing, jive, soul and Motown music - and we were only too happy to travel to this beautiful Mediterrean island to provide it for them.
Here are the highlights of a short yet memorable trip!
The Chuppah
The Chuppah was positioned in front of Limestone Heritage’s most significant landmark - the beautiful waterfall, which would prove to be a stunning backdrop for the whole day.
After the service, Ketija & Gideon were whisked off for photos in Malta’s Mdina whilst guests enjoyed drinks and entertainment from a string quartet.
The Horah
One of our favourite things about Jewish weddings is the tradition of spreading the dancing throughout the day - it’s something we’re trying to encourage non-Jewish couples to adopt!
Shortly after Ketija & Gideon returned from their photos, and before dinner and speeches, they were summoned to the dancefloor for the Horah, followed by our high-octane Jewish medley. Our Medley lasts for about 15 minutes and definitely requires a rest afterwards - so it’s just as well that guests were then called through to dinner in the second section of the gardens.
The formalities
The dinner area was just as picturesque. As the sun set, guests enjoyed wonderful food and heartwarming speeches.
The first dance
After the formalities had ended, it was back to the dancefloor.
Ketija & Gideon had chosen Amazed by Lonestar for their first dance, requesting a custom arrangement featuring both of our vocalists.
The party
After that, it was on with the party! The dancefloor was packed all night long and it was a joyful celebration under starry skies.
It was a wonderful celebration of two cultures coming together, with so much love for the couple throughout the day. Afterwards we received this message:
"Hi Mike, once again thank you and your team for the amazing performance at our wedding in Malta on Monday. We're still hearing great feedback about you guys and saying how great the music was!"
